Comprehensive Production and Analysis of Genetic Data
DNA Sequencing, Genotyping, SNP characterization

The Genetic Variation and Gene Discovery Core (GVGDC) is an institutional (non-profit) laboratory centralizing the production and analysis of DNA related data. Equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation the facility provides services for:
  • Translational research for gene based studies
  • DNA sequencing
  • Microsatellite genotyping
  • DNA extraction from blood, saliva, and other tissue
  • High throughput custom SNP genotyping on the Illumina platform
  • Whole genome genotyping on the Affymetrix and Illumina platforms
Operating under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification the facility can provide results for both research and molecular diagnostic purposes. Our technical team has extensive training in:
  • Sequencing/Genotyping project management
  • Primer design and PCR optimization
  • Genomic database searches
  • Bioinformatic handling of large datasets
  • Data quality control
Established in 2001 at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Research Foundation, the GVGDC has been a major player in the sequencing of the Pneumocystis carinii genome.

We are dedicated to the success of the researchers and clinicians that we serve!
